#OWSCyCon2019 Author Spotlight
As part of the build-up to OWSCyCon2019, I want to introduce you to some of the amazing volunteers and authors taking part in the event. If it wasn’t for the volunteers, there could be no CyCon, and I’m grateful to every single one of them for giving up their time to make this happen. But by the same token, without the authors taking part in the event, we wouldn’t be able to bring you the amazing events that we have planned. So without further delay…
Meet Odin Oxthorn
A chronically bored spooky creature, Odin dabbles in a strange array of interests to keep their wandering brain in check. When not writing under the influence of caffeinated drinks and sugary snacks, Odin can be found escaping reality with video games or getting their fingers tangled in a mess of threads and needles.
What Genres Do You Write In?
Why Don't You Start By Sharing A Little About Yourself
I am formally educated in Game Development with a focus on narrative design. However Fate took a little turn and I decided to go with what I know and turn to fiction. I also make shiny things and teach jewelry making lessons.
Could you tell us a bit about your latest book?
It is a cyberpunk thriller featuring a non-binary protagonist. The environments are sure to capture as you follow the story of Nara as she navigates through a world of corporate intrigue and hyper-futuristic technology.
Who is your intended readership?
Anyone who enjoys the cyberpunk genre and fast-paced thrillers. Gamers will probably find this fun, especially those who have played the Shadowrun games,
When did you realize you wanted to be a writer?
When I decided I was tired of working toward someone else’s dreams. I wanted something of my own to share with the world.
Do you have a favorite author, or writing inspiration?
Alastair Reynolds’ Chasm City is my absolute favorite. The worlds are so colorful.
What advice would you give beginning writers?
Take. Your. Time. And rest.
What do you like to do when you're not writing? Any hobbies?
Video games is my default. Jewelry making is technically a hobby but it functions more like a second job.
What’s your next project? Any upcoming book secrets you care to reveal?
I am currently writing the sequel of my debut Sleepless Flame and hoping to launch in the fall. I also have a short upcoming with Blood Bound Books in their cyberpunk anthology Crash Code.
"Midnight to Morning"
If your biggest payout was from your worst enemy, would you still take the deal?
After thirty years living in exile from her homeworld, Nara grew weary of the monotony of mercenary life: Do job for Company A, anger Company B, then diffuse the inevitable retaliation. Repeat ad nauseam.
Most importantly, try hard not to piss off the ruthless Galavantier Corp again. A task easy enough- until the unconscious body of the Biotech’s heir lands at her feet.
Thrown in the midst of a cutthroat power shift within the heart of Galavantier Corp, Nara must now decide: return to the safety of her hermetic lifestyle, or aid her strange bedfellow to break the chains of noble obligations-and hope to survive the aftermath.
