#OWSCyCon2019 Author Spotlight
As part of the build-up to OWSCyCon2019, I want to introduce you to some of the amazing volunteers and authors taking part in the event. If it wasn’t for the volunteers, there could be no CyCon, and I’m grateful to every single one of them for giving up their time to make this happen. But by the same token, without the authors taking part in the event, we wouldn’t be able to bring you the amazing events that we have planned. So without further delay…
Meet K. M. Jenkins
K.M. Jenkins is a published best selling speculative fiction author who writes epic battles, forbidden romance, and tales of fantasy and adventure. She has a big love for the fantasy genre and loves dragons above all creatures. When she is not writing, you will find her running her business as a cover artist at KJ Magical Designs, LLC and chasing her twin boys around the house. Between the three she has epic battles throughout the day and nothing ever gets boring.
What Genres Do You Write In?
Why Don't You Start By Sharing A Little About Yourself
My real name is Katie Jenkins, but I write under K.M. Jenkins. I have been writing off and on for the last five years. I just recently started publishing my works of fantasy.
When I am not writing I run my own design business called KJ Magical Designs. I work with indie and small press authors from around the world.
I am also the proud momma of twin boys that spend every waking minutes destroying the house. When I am not writing, designing I spend my free time chasing them around our home. Everyday is an adventure and makes it exciting when it is always changing.
Could you tell us a bit about your latest book?
My latest story is scheduled to release March 31st and is titled Mëira’s Prince. The story features my favorite elven prince, Ïstan. He is planning on going for a hunting expedition without the eyes of his guards. Things go wrong when he finds himself magically transported into the Forest of Ferrês. He meets some interesting fairies and a new friend that will change his life forever. To find out who his new friend is you will have to read the story to find out.
Who is your intended readership?
Right now the stories are falling within the YA readership area. I do have two stories with adult content that is suited to readers within the NA genre. When I bundle all the stories together I plan to make things easier for promoting to do a rewrite of those two stories to make them all consistently fall within the YA readership.
When did you realize you wanted to be a writer?
I don’t entirely remember, I believe it was back in my sophomore year of high school. I’ve always been a book worm since elementary school and at some point my own idea for a book series sprung to life in my head. I started planning it out and still am working on that series itself. The Tales of Ferrês Story series actually is written in the same world as my Legacy of the Silver Ryder Series. So, far I have spent ten years working on this series between world building, notes, and organizing. I am hoping to start writing it here this year or early next year.
Do you have a favorite author, or writing inspiration?
If I had to pick a favorite author it is hands down, Mercedes Lackey. I grew up reading her books since elementary school. I still read her books till this day. Her writing inspired my own writing with my world of Tarzinëa.
What advice would you give beginning writers?
Just write. I spent so much time worrying about the technical side of things that I found it easier to just sit down and write. I take notes as I write instead of trying to do it all beforehand. Half the time everything will change anyway and your characters don’t care if you plotted out an entire book, they are like children they will do what they want.
What do you like to do when you're not writing? Any hobbies?
When I am not writing I will watch tv against my will. I will sit on the couch with my boys and snuggle. It is a fun relaxing time for myself and they enjoy the bonding.
Another, thing I do in my down time is graphic design. I do cover design, promo design and much more for authors world wide. I even do my own covers :).
If I am not doing either of those two things you will find me with my nose in a book. I ended up getting Kindle Unlimited so I can read more books. I can usually go through 5 to 10 books in a month depending on my work load.
What’s your next project? Any upcoming book secrets you care to reveal?
Right now I have several projects in the works. The first is finishing up my Tales of Ferrês series, hoping to have it done and in book format by the end of June. One of my other projects is released different. I am writing a book for my members of my Dragon Ryder VIP Readers List. Each month I release a new chapter and when completed I will compile it all into a single book. Then members will get a free ebook copy of the final work.
If that isn’t enough I am working on two book series. They both are paranormal romance series. The first is my Demonic Embrace series that will have paranormal creatures of all kinds throughout its pages. It will have a play on the ‘Beauty and the Beast’. My other series is a work in progress. It has werewolves and is more for the New Adult audiences. I can’t go into too much detail with this one since it is still in the planning stages.
A gorgeous day lies before Ïstan. On a mission to practice with his bow away from prying eyes, he ventures out into the elven forest of Vladïmir. A single step unexpectedly changes his path, throwing him deep within the Forest of Ferrês. He is taken to an alluring fairy city, hoping his new fairy friends can get him home again. But when the Child Goddess, Salza, gets involved Ïstan finds himself standing on the edge of a new adventure—one that will begin as soon as he proves he is fit for the journey ahead.
