#OWSCyCon2019 Author Spotlight

As part of the build-up to OWSCyCon2019, I want to introduce you to some of the amazing volunteers and authors taking part in the event. If it wasn’t for the volunteers, there could be no CyCon, and I’m grateful to every single one of them for giving up their time to make this happen. But by the same token, without the authors taking part in the event, we wouldn’t be able to bring you the amazing events that we have planned. So without further delay…

What Genres Do You Write In?

Why Don't You Start By Sharing A Little About Yourself

Besides everything in my bio, I am a lover of music. Whether I’m playing music on my saxophone or listening to my favorite band, Breaking Benjamin, I connect to music in a lot of ways. Every chapter of my books have a song dedicated to that chapter. Its how I build upon the emotion of chapters.

Could you tell us a bit about your latest book?

My latest project is a serial of shorts about a war between Mysts, mystical beings, and humans. It begins with Naomi, an enchantress, killing a U.S. Senator in an effort to bring down the FOP, Fraternity of Purifiers. By doing so, she’d also brought the existence of Mysts into light, something that most Mysts celebrated while others….not so much. This serial will lead to a group of series that build the story of this world I’ve created and challenge some of our own social norms. Its a project I’m really excited about.

Who is your intended readership?

Adults who don’t mind excessive cursing, dark humor, and dark content.

When did you realize you wanted to be a writer?

When I was six. I was bullied in school, a lot. One of my teachers gave me the book The Whipping Boy and I was instantly in love with reading. I could lose myself in the stories and escape the pressures of real life anytime the bullying became too much for me. I soon began writing stories of my own, hoping that one day, my stories would provide the same escape for others it had provided me with.

Do you have a favorite author, or writing inspiration?

Dean Koontz. He is my absolute favorite. But I read just about anything.

What advice would you give beginning writers?

Read a lot of books in the genre you wish to write in, and simply write. Write your story from beginning to end without letting anyone look at the story until it is completed. One mistake I’ve made over and over again was sharing my stories before they were completed. I found that by doing so, I’d change so much of the stories, based on their opinions, that the story was no longer mine.

Do you have any amusing writing stories or anecdotes to share?

Well, there was a story I wrote before. The main character was crafted after my husband. I found it difficult to build a relationship between his character and the female lead because I kept getting jealous! Not sure if that’s funny but my husband still makes fun of me for it today.

What do you like to do when you're not writing? Any hobbies?

I love to design in photoshop, paint, play music on my saxophone, and create designer soaps. Basically, anything artistic.

What’s your next project? Any upcoming book secrets you care to reveal?

Wouldn’t you like to know? lol. I actually have a lot of projects in the works. However, I don’t like to reveal most of them because I change my mind so often.

Twenty years have passed since the world discovered the existence of Mysts, mystical beings, when a young witch publicly executed a United States Senator on live television. Fear gripped the nation as Mysts went public with their abilities in solidarity with the young witch.

Naomi has been cast out, shunned by the very people she’d sacrificed everything for. Now in the hands of FOP, the Fraternity of Purifiers, Naomi is forced to face what she’s done and come to terms with the irreparable damage she’s caused for Toni, the daughter of the man she’d killed.
