#OWSCyCon2019 Author Spotlight
As part of the build-up to OWSCyCon2019, I want to introduce you to some of the amazing volunteers and authors taking part in the event. If it wasn’t for the volunteers, there could be no CyCon, and I’m grateful to every single one of them for giving up their time to make this happen. But by the same token, without the authors taking part in the event, we wouldn’t be able to bring you the amazing events that we have planned. So without further delay…
Meet Kayla Krantz
Kayla Krantz is the proud author of a number of fantasy and thrillers. She is fascinated by the dark and macabre. Stephen King is her all time inspiration mixed in with a little bit of Eminem. When she began writing, she started in horror but it somehow drifted into thriller. She loves the 1988 movie Heathers. She was born and raised in Michigan but traveled across the country to where she currently resides in Texas.
What Genres Do You Write In?
Why Don't You Start By Sharing A Little About Yourself
I love to read and write, and when I’m not lost in the written word, I enjoy baking, drawing, and painting.
Could you tell us a bit about your latest book?
The Sage, the last book in the Witch’s Ambitions Trilogy, is set to release in August. I’m excited for this book because we get to see the events that the entire series has been leading up to.
When did you realize you wanted to be a writer?
For my entire life, I’ve known that writing was something I wanted to do. I’ve always been more in the stories in my head than the world around me. Putting them on paper makes me feel whole.
Do you have a favorite author, or writing inspiration?
Stephen King was my inspiration when I first started writing. The more that I began to drift in genre, however, the more I began to draw inspiration from other writers such as Ruth Ware and Lynn Weingarten.
What advice would you give beginning writers?
I would tell beginning writers to never give up. Writing is a hard job, and most of the time, it’s not fun. There will be criticism, there will be times when you want to give up, but you have to push through it all because the ability to create an entire world is a beautiful gift that should never be taken for granted.
What do you like to do when you're not writing? Any hobbies?
When I’m not writing, I love to delve into the arts and draw and paint. I’ve recently tried my hand at portrait drawing.
What’s your next project? Any upcoming book secrets you care to reveal?
My next project is the fourth book in my Rituals series. With the way I ended the third book, a lot of readers have assumed that’s it, but this year, the series will continue. One secret about the book is that everything readers think they know from the previous three books will be turned upside down.
The Council (The Witch's Ambitions Trilogy #1)
The Council is the governing Coven over the Land of Five, a region entirely inhabited—and split apart—by witches with varying powers.
Lilith Lace, a witch thought to be born powerless, happily resides in Ignis, the Coven of Fire, until she suddenly develops telekinesis, an ability only seen in some witches born in Mentis, the Coven of the Mind. She’s terrified of it, unsure who she can trust. Her best friends, Helena and Clio, are hot and cold about what she can do, leaving Lilith even more unsure about her future.
At her Arcane Ceremony, the truth comes out.
When the Council learns what she can do, she’s taken under their wing and is finally told the truth—everything she’s learned about the Land of Five, herself included, have been nothing but lies.
