31 Days of Halloween - Oct 28 - My Top 10 Halloween Movies

It’s coming up on Halloween, and time to get your scares on. With that in mind, I went through my movie collection, and picked out a selection of movies that I think would make interesting viewing for the season.

I present the movies in no particular order, and have rated each of the movies, but those are just my personal ratings. If any of the movies catches your attention, and you’d like to pick up a copy, click the image to be taken to the relevant Amazon order page.

#1 - Legion


Rating: R
Genre: Action, Horror, Suspense

At a remote desert truck stop, the fate of the world will be decided. Evil’s armies are amassing.

Armed and united by the Archangel Michael, a group of strangers become unwitting soldiers on the front lines of the Apocalypse. Their mission: protect a waitress and her sacred unborn child from the relentless, bloody siege of the demonic legion.

#2 - Priest


Rating: Unrated
Genre: Action, Science Fiction

In a post-apocalyptic world, a savage war between man and vampire has raged for centuries. A warrior priest receives word of fresh attacks, but now it’s personal; his niece has been kidnapped by a new hive of merciless vampires, he must break his vow of peace and hunt down the hive before it’s too late. Based on the acclaimed graphic novel and packed with blood-thirsty action, this full-throttle crusade takes you on the hunt for a deadly new breed of killer.

#3 – Beetlejuice


Rating: PG
Genre: Comedy

What’s a Yuppie ghost couple to do when their quaint New England home is overrun by trendy New Yorkers? Hire a freelance “bio-exorcist” to spook the intruders, of course.

#4 - Beowulf


Rating: Unrated
Genre: Action, Adventure, Animation

In the age of heroes comes the mightiest warrior of them all, Beowulf. After destroying the overpowering demon Grendel, he incurs the undying wrath of the beast’s ruthlessly seductive mother who will use any means possible to ensure revenge.

#5 - Constantine


Rating: R
Genre: Horror

Holy water. A dragon’s-breath flamethrower. A shotgun crafted from a crucifix. Armed with these an assisted by an intrepid cop, John Constantine in a spiritual warrior gone to apocalyptic war.

Be glad he’s on your side.

#6 - The Witches of Eastwick


Rating: R
Comedy, Drama, Fantasy, Horror, Suspense

Three modern-day “witches” yearn for Mr. Right in a New England town.

Is the arrival of wealthy and irresistible Daryl Van Horne a coincidence – or the women’s unconscious sorcery at work?

#7 - Shaun of the Dead


Rating: R
Genre: Comedy, Horror

There comes a day in every man’s life when he has to get off the couch – and kill some zombies.

When flesh-eating zombies are on the hunt for a bite to eat, it’s up to slacker Shaun and his best pal to save their friends and family from becoming the next entree.

#8 – Alien


Rating: R
Action, Adventure, Horror, Science Fiction, Suspense

On their voyage home, the crew of the deep-space tug Nostromo investigate an alien distress signal, inadvertently picking up and bringing aboard an extraterrestrial life form with violent and lethal survival instincts.

#9 – Red Riding Hood


Rating: PG-13
Genre: Fantasy, Horror

For years the villagers of Daggerhorn have maintained an uneasy truce with a werewolf – but the beast changes the stakes by killing the older sister of brave young Valerie.

Promised in marriage to one man but in love with another, Valerie is affected yet again by the creatures bloody actions.

When a werewolf hunter warns that the beast takes human form by day and walks among them, panic sets in as the death toll rises. And Valerie learns she has a unique connection to the wolf that inexorably draws them together, making her both suspect… and bait.

#10 – Ghostbusters


Rating: PG
Genre: Comedy, Science Fiction, Paranormal

After the members of a team of scientists lose their cushy positions at a university in New York City, they decide to become “ghostbusters” to wage a high-tech battle with the supernatural for money. They stumble upon a gateway to another dimension, a doorway that will release evil upon the city. The Ghostbusters must now save New York from complete destruction.
